Ghanaian musician Livingstone Etse Satekla, popularly known as Stonebwoy, won the coveted Artiste of the Year award at the recently held Telecel Ghana Music Awards ceremony.
The Multiple Award-winning Reggae Dancehall artiste, Stonebwoy has won the ultimate award for the Artiste of the Year award at the 25th Telecel Ghana Music Awards 2024. This makes it his second win of the award after he first picked it in year 2015. After bagging eleven nominations, Stonebwoy won six awards making him the highest winner on the night.
The 2024 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) which took place last Saturday at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Center AICC here in Accra Ghana’s capital, witnessed many Ghanaian musicians eagerly claiming awards amid tough competition from their peers.
The ‘Into the Future’ crooner contended the most prestigious award with Sarkodie, Black Sherif, Kuami Eugene, King Promise, and Nacee (Ghanaian gospel artiste) for the year under review. Stonebwoy also just recently released “5th Dimension”, his first studio collection in three years.
The Reggae/Dancehall artiste was the most decorated artiste for the night sending home the awards for the International Collaboration of the Year, Songwriter of the Year, Reggae Dancehall Artiste of the Year, Record of the Year and Album/EP of the year 2024.
While receiving the award Stonebwoy expressed gratitude to his fans the BHIM Nation fans and announced that he will embark on a tour with the award.
Stonebwoy shared the joyous moment with his friends and family on stage including his wife Dr Louisa Satekla and said he was lost for words.
“I just want to say thanks to the Most High God. Thank you, mama, wherever you are, thank you for showering your blessings upon your son. I wrote a long speech but I am lost for words,” the musician said.
About the TGMA
Telecel Ghana Music Awards hitherto used to be Vodafone Ghana Music Awards VGMA which was Ghana’s Most prominent and most celebrated awards event, but since the acquisition of Vodafone Ghana by Telecel, the event name was also changed from Vodafone Ghana Music Awards VGMA to Telecel Ghana Music Awards TGMA. And as long as Telecel Ghana remains, the name of the event will continue to be TGMA.
The Ghana Music Awards, now known as Telcel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) after previously being titled Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) due to sponsorship changes stands as an annual hallmark event within Ghana’s music industry.
Since its inception in 1999 by Charter House, a local event organizing company, its primary aim has been to recognize and honour the contributions of Ghanaian musicians towards the advancement and enrichment of the nation’s music landscape. This awards ceremony serves as a platform to celebrate the musical talents and achievements of artists who have played pivotal roles in shaping and expanding the local music scene.
Stonebwoy on receiving his awards, also appreciated the other artistes in the category for putting up a good fight and thanked his fans (BHIM Nation) for their constant support.
However, before he walked off the stage, Stonebwoy appealed to the organizers – Charterhouse to announce the result of the 2019 Ghana Music Awards.
Earlier in year 2019, at the 2019 Ghana Music Awards event, a fight broke out between himself (Stonebwoy) and Shatta Wale (acclaimed Dance Hall King in Ghana). This led to the decision of the organizers to not announce the winner for that category and subsequently both’s suspension from the awards for a year.
King Promise (another very prominent Ghanaian artiste), despite losing the Artiste of the Year award, won three awards: Afropop Song of the Year, Afrobeat/Afropop Artiste of the Year, and Most Popular Song of the Year.
We wish Stonebwoy a hearty congratulations and all the best in his music journey.
