FirstBank Nigeria Breaks Ground for Nigeria’s Tallest Skyscraper in Lagos’ Eko Atlantic City

FirstBank, West Africa’s oldest financial institution, has commenced construction of its ultra-modern, eco-friendly headquarters in the heart of Lagos’ Eko Atlantic City.

The groundbreaking ceremony, held last Wednesday, marked the beginning of a 40-storey skyscraper that will become Nigeria’s tallest building and a new landmark in the African financial landscape.

The iconic structure, designed to meet international green-building standards, is a testament to FirstBank’s push for sustainability, innovation, and excellence. With its advanced technological design and eco-friendly features, the project is expected to redefine banking infrastructure in the country and beyond.

Speaking at the event, FirstBank Group’s CEO, Olusegun Alebiosu, emphasized the bank’s unwavering commitment to progress and sustainability.

The event attracted some of the country’s top dignitaries, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, lawmakers, state governors, federal ministers, and industry leaders, underscoring the project’s significance to Nigeria’s financial and economic landscape.

“We are proud to mark this significant milestone in our journey towards excellence. Our new Head Office is envisioned as a world-class structure that represents our dedication to innovation, customer satisfaction, and sustainability,” he stated.

“We believe that this development will play a crucial role in fostering economic growth and development across Africa, creating long-term value for all our stakeholders.”

Nigerian Billionaire and Chairman of FirstHoldCo, Femi Otedola, who also spoke at the event, hailed the project as a collective effort that symbolizes FirstBank’s resilience and forward-thinking approach.

He said: “Today’s gathering highlights the importance of collaboration and support from various sectors in bringing our ambitious plans for the new headquarters to life. We appreciate the unrelenting support from our customers and stakeholders as we work together to turn this vision into reality.”

FirstBank, which has been at the forefront of the Nigerian banking industry for over 130 years, continues to strengthen its global footprint. With subsidiaries in nine countries across three continents, the new headquarters further cements its legacy, positioning it as a pioneer in sustainable banking practices and architectural excellence.

As construction kicks off, industry analysts are eager to see how this project will shape the future of Nigeria’s financial sector and set new standards in corporate infrastructure across the continent.
