Discover Africa’s Travel Destination with Rostelie Kwahu, Ghana

As Easter approaches, let’s travel to Ghana’s premier Easter destination.

Kwahu is located in the eastern region of Ghana, Kwahu is the 33rd District in Eastern region Ghana. Let’s explore the beauty and excitement of this vibrant town during Easter.

Kwahu lies on the west shore of Lake Volta; its area coverage is 1462 km;

The region has been given nicknames that depict it. Have you heard of the “Shining city on the hill”; or “Asaase Aban” or the “Natural fortress”? It all points to Kwahu because it is the highest habitable elevation in the country.

Kwahu lies within the semi-deciduous forest zone, the vegetation in the region is dense in terms of tree coverage.  Because of its position within the semi-equatorial region, the area experiences a double rainfall pattern the humidity range between 75% and 80%. The Language spoken is Akan Twi and English; the Kwahu tribe are known for their hard work nature and entrepreneurial skills.

The town of Kwahu has a good number of waterways. One of the main rivers is the Afram, a tributary of Lake Volta, and another important river is the Pra. On the outskirts of town, you’ll find several waterfalls with sublime scenery.

As part of its charm, Kwahu is made up of valleys and mountain ranges that makes the town a perfect destination for all the divergent activities that take place there.

The best way to reach Kwahu east is by driving. The driving journey is approximately a 3h drive and a distance of 166 km from Accra.  Plan your visit during the months of March and April then the weather is fantastic and that’s when the Easter festival takes place.

Once you get to Kwahu, do not worry about what you’re going to do, there are plenty of activities to keep you busy and entertained.

One of the famous events happening at Kwahu during Easter time is the paragliding festival. The festival lasts 4 days and gathers Ghanaians and foreigners to fly people around the area. The flying conditions are consistent; it begins around morning and remains soarable until late in the day. The thermals in Kwahu are consistently large and mild; it offers a fantastic opportunity for pilots to gain valuable experience and airtime. If you are not comfortable in the air, you can always participate in hiking of the Odweanoma mountain walk race, or get a telescope viewing from Mount Odweanoma observatory. For adventure enthusiasts hop on a quad bike and explore the terrain. Take a refreshing picnic at Butuase waterfall, which is a 60 ft waterfall on the outskirts of Kwahu Tafo, on the Kotoso road in the Eastern Region. The stream falls away under a uniquely amazing natural cavern. Kwahu is also known for its vibrant nightlife, with its many restaurants and pubs. Feast your stomach with local food such as fufu, cassava, kontomire, waterfall, groundnut soup, grass cutter locally called akranteɛ, snails and crabs.
