Last Saturday, May 25, Manhyia Palace hosted a banquet for Freemasons who traveled from far and wide to honour the life patron of the Grand Lodge of Ghana, Most Worshipful Bro Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, on May 25, 2024, at the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Jubilee Hall.
Freemasons from Ghana and other parts of West Africa and beyond met to honour the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, who is the Grand Patron of the Grand Lodge of Ghana. The occasion also marked the 15th anniversary of the Grand Lodge of Ghana. The event began with members participating in Masonic ceremonies after which the banquet was held.
They all gathered in Kumasi this weekend to honour Otumfuo Osei Tutu II on two significant milestones: his 25th anniversary on the Golden Stool and his 25th anniversary as a Freemason. The Ashanti King is known in the Grand Lodge as Most Worshipful Bro Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
Freemasons who attended the event were dressed in their Masonic attire, notably wearing aprons and gloves – a unique theme among most Freemasons.
At the event, the Grand Lodge and Osei Tutu Lodge donated GHC300,000 and GHC25,000, respectively, to support Asantehene’s Heal Komfo Anokye Project.
The banquet was attended by brethren from various grand lodges, including the Grand Lodge of Liberia, led by MWB Anthony W. Deline, United Grand Lodge of England, represented by Most Worshipful Bro Charles William Stanley-Pierre and Grand Master designate of the Grand Lodge in Nigeria, High Chief Osiobe Eric Okotie.
Among members participating in the event were Ghana’s National Security Minister, Alber Ken-Dapaah, Transport Minister Kweku Ofori Asiamah, Executive Chairman of Ghana Community Network (GCNet) Dr. Nortey Omaboe, and other prominent Ghanaians who are members of the fraternal society.
Also present were current Grand Master, Most Worshipful Bro Nana Osei Atwene Bonsu, Most Worshipful Bro Otwasuom Osae Nyampong VI, Most Worshipful Bro N/Capt Kwadjo Adunkwa Butah and Bro Nana Kwaku Boateng lll, Omanhene of New Juaben.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II ascended to the Golden Stool in 1999 and has been a steadfast supporter of Freemasonry throughout his reign.
Following the formal Masonic ceremony that took place, festivities continued at the Jubilee Hall in Manhyia, fostering a spirit of unity and brotherhood among attendees.
The Grand Lodge of Ghana was formally founded on January 24, 2009, as a “Sovereign Masonic Body.” The Grand Lodge of Ghana oversees a significant number of subordinate lodges and is grouped into four provincial Grand Lodges: South West (Cape Coast), South East (Accra), North (Kumasi), and East (Lome & Volta). The United Grand Lodge of England was the first to recognize the newly constituted Grand Lodge of Ghana.
Most Worshipful Brother Charles William Stanley-Pierre was installed as the first Grand Master, followed by Most Worshipful Brother Otwasuom Osae Nyampong VI in 2013, and Most Worshipful Brother N/Capt Kwadjo Adunkwa Butah in 2017.
The current Grand Master, Most Worshipful Brother Nana Osei Atwene Bonsu, assumed office in May 2021. And the Grand Lodge’s motto, “That All Shall Be One,” reflects its commitment to unity.
