Van Vicker Explains Why He Turned Down a Role in Lil Win’s Film

By Maame Yaa Adu-Nketia

Ghanaian actor Van Vicker recently set the record straight regarding his decision to turn down a role in Lil Win’s film, “A Country Called Ghana”.

In an interview with Hello FM in Kumasi, Vicker disclosed that the refusal stemmed from a scheduling conflict with the film’s producers. Initially approached by Fii Frank Garbin to play a role eventually taken by Nigerian actor Ramsey, Vicker was asked to commit to a month-long shoot, which he found excessive given his ongoing education commitments.

Vicker said he proposed a more feasible ten-day shooting schedule, which the producers ultimately rejected. Ironically, Ramsey, who took over the role, completed the filming within the same ten-day period that Vicker had suggested.

Van Vicker emphasized that his decision was not a rejection of the film but rather a disagreement over logistics and compensation. “Fii Frank Garbin called me and said he wanted me to play the role Ramsey played. I asked about the shooting schedule since I was in school. The producer said they needed me for a month, which I felt was too long,” Vicker explained.

He continued, “I told them the more days required, the higher the fees. I asked if they were sure they could pay me for a full month. Since I couldn’t commit to a month, I offered to work for ten days instead. They declined, and later, I saw that Ramsey did the job in ten days.”

Vicker’s account highlights the logistical challenges actors face while balancing multiple commitments. Despite the setback, he remains committed to his craft and education.
