“We Love Political Parties More Than We Love Ghana” – Ghanaian Musician Kofi Kinaata laments

By Maame Yaa Adu Nketia

In a candid revelation that has sparked widespread discussion, renowned Ghanaian musician Kofi Kinaata has bemoaned the pervasive influence of political partisanship in his homeland, suggesting that it supersedes the collective welfare of the nation.

During a recent interview monitored by Graphic Showbiz, the “Susuka” hitmaker articulated his frustration over the prevailing climate, wherein citizens prioritize allegiance to political factions over addressing pressing issues facing the country. Kofi Kinaata voiced concerns that this allegiance stifles constructive dialogue and inhibits progress, leaving many unable to voice their grievances without fear of reprisal.

“The people are making things difficult, so we cannot address issues because someone thinks he is for party A, so whatever you’re saying goes against party A, so don’t say,” Kofi Kinaata remarked, illustrating the polarizing effect of political loyalties on public discourse.

Moreover, Kinaata revealed his reluctance to delve into politics despite overtures from various political figures, including members of the Movement for Change. He emphasized his commitment to remaining apolitical, asserting that his role as an ambassador for the “See Something, Say Something” initiative is compromised by the prevailing political climate.

“My workers at home call every 15 minutes to complain about ‘dumsor,’ (a situation where there is power outage) but I can’t even talk about it,” Kinaata lamented, underscoring the challenges faced by public figures in addressing critical issues amid political sensitivities.

While Kofi Kinaata’s remarks have sparked introspection within the Ghanaian society, they also serve as a poignant reminder of the need for a more inclusive and constructive approach to governance, one that prioritizes the collective interests of the nation over partisan divides.

As Ghana continues its journey towards progress and development, Kinaata’s words resonate as a call to action for citizens and leaders alike to transcend political differences and work together towards a brighter future for all.
